OK, I understand your point, but we have a difference of intuition here. I think that an AGI design of roughly the same complexity as Novamente will be able to exceed human intelligence via generative self-modification ;-) And I think that such a design can be understood by one person in its object structure and underlying mathematics, though not at the level of every single line of code.
