I have to agree with Eugene that qualia are fundamentally disinteresting to the process of designing or even thinking about AI.
Whether or not we have them, it doesn't make sense to worry about it for artificial systems. A perceptron doesn't have qualia, nor do 500 million of them all hooked together.
