If you take a person who has functional eyes, ears etc.  In other words a
rich stream of worldly data and put that person in a vegetative state, do
the worldly inputs make the person any smarter?

If an earth worm has a rich input stream from the real world, does that mean
that a program that can generate many useful and insightful answers to
questions in a game simulator has no hope of catching up to the worm?

Doesn't it matter what is done with the input stream as well as how rich it
might be?

Does a robot that roams around with a whisker sensor gathering input from
the world have any chance of greatest if the data is just dumped on entry?

Even in this excerpt from Ben below, doesn't the quality of the two
intelligences account for most of the differences in their intelligence
rather than the richness of the environment?
