We get taught, by a mother who beats us with a stick (or other appropriate
sanctions) when we wander into the street.

This provides a value landscape in the space of actions that allows us to form
beneficial generalizations even of situations we don't have direct experience
of. But it's still reinforcement learning.

Having mentors with experience is a reinforcement-learning cognate of the
Baldwin Effect.
