Oops. That wasn't meant to be a flame at all . . . . But, I'm having WAAAAY too much fun with this idea so I've ended my boycott on sending to the SL4 list and went over and poured blood in the water over there (what can I say, it *is* the ultimate acid test for the theory :-).
I will continue to develop the nitty-gritty details on this list but will ask that any lurking SL4 folk who don't normally post on this list to *please* post any questions to the SL4 list so we don't flood this list with an SL4 level of noise and lack of implementation detail (since I may well be on the borderline with this at this point -- Ben? <but see my last paragraph :->). I promise to spend a significant amount of effort in attempting to ensure that any salient points make it to both lists. Hopefully, I'm not going to be eaten by the sharks over there . . . . but if so, it was a tremendously entertaining and exciting way to go . . . . :-) (Note: I'll also take this opportunity to ping Richard Loosemore because I am really looking forward to his reply on MES systems and whether he feels that they are compatible with my formulation of Friendliness and whether/why/how he believes that he can make an MES-type system into a seed AI. I *think* that he's going to have to add an additional mechanism to make an optimizing MES and I'm *really* curious how he's either going to do that, prove that it's already in there, or prove that it is unnecessary. And I will point out that that is strictly an AGI implementation thread that has grown out of this one -- thereby attempting to justify this thread for this list :-) ----- Original Message ----- From: JW Johnston To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, March 12, 2008 4:53 PM Subject: Re: [agi] Declaration of Friendliness This is the friendliest flame I've ever seen from Mark. Maybe there's something to this Ice-9 of Ethics! :-) -JW -----Original Message----- From: Mark Waser Sent: Mar 12, 2008 4:14 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [agi] Declaration of Friendliness Quick Recap - I've been arguing that a great way to ensure the stability of Friendliness for AGI would be to make it so that it was in an entity's own self-interest to be Friendly (I've been calling this the Attractor Theory of Friendliness). It's obvious from hindsight, but while working on it, I had the epiphany that it was only to my own benefit to declare Friendliness myself (duh, if it's in any AGI/entity's self-interest, then it must be in *my* self-interest). I have therefore declared Friendliness (and codified what the Friendliness is that I am declaring and attempting to spread -- which then can be used to derive useful ethical guidelines for AGIs, humans, and all other entities to follow because it is in their own best self-interest <and mine> to do so). I am also promoting my catchy new slogan "Friendliness: The Ice-9 of Ethics and the Ultimate in Self-Interest" as a good way to spread Friendliness. :-) (So, yes, I do *strongly* believe that my declaration was on topic for the list :-) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jey Kottalam" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 12, 2008 3:04 PM Subject: Re: [agi] Declaration of Friendliness > On Wed, Mar 12, 2008 at 7:46 AM, Mark Waser <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: >> >> Hi, I'm Mark Waser. >> >> I am hereby declaring myself to be a Friendly entity as of March 12, 2008. >> I have not knowingly/intentionally performed any UnFriendly actions since >> this date. > > I haven't been following the list lately so maybe I'm missing some > context --- but what does this have to do with AGI or AGI > Friendliness? > > -Jey Kottalam > > ------------------------------------------- > agi > Archives: http://www.listbox.com/member/archive/303/=now > RSS Feed: http://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/303/ > Modify Your Subscription: http://www.listbox.com/member/?& > Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com > ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- agi | Archives | Modify Your Subscription ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ agi | Archives | Modify Your Subscription ------------------------------------------- agi Archives: http://www.listbox.com/member/archive/303/=now RSS Feed: http://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/303/ Modify Your Subscription: http://www.listbox.com/member/?member_id=8660244&id_secret=95818715-a78a9b Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com
