I'm researching what is out there on general intelligence not requiring consciousness. The more I think about it the more I see consciousness not required and there are surprisingly many hits on it. The stuff I'm reading I'm not picking up anything that I don't derive in my own thinking but the reading is intellectually stimulating. I am exploring the thought that consciousness may require a complex system whereas general intelligence may not. BUT some forms of general intelligence could be created with a complex system. I've created complex systems in software before - at least I believe they were - if anyone is familiar with different types of hacked plasmas - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_effect when you get to the point of getting stuff to emerge from the hacked plasma I believe there is a complexity barrier disconnect, depending on the plasma and depending on the emergence...
