Intolerance of another person's ideas through intimidation or ridicule
is intellectual repression. You won't elevate a discussion by
promoting a program anti-intellectual repression. Intolerance of a
person for his religious beliefs is a form of intellectual
intolerance. There are times when we have differences of opinion and
at times those differences may be intended to have other social
effects. That is why it is important not to waste your efforts in the
support of blatant intolerance.

We all have moments where learning can only be achieved the hard way.
I am not suggesting that it is easy to avoid the complications of
trying to strongly express an opinion or elevate a discussion. But
each of us has the opportunity and responsibility to learn from his
mistakes. But this cannot be done simplistically. It has to be done
by examining a situation from different levels other than than the
prejudices and hostilities that you brought to it.
