I think it is quite reasonable that you should be able to move all open tasks with a story when you assign a different sprint to it. You could take a look at our pro version - the whiteboard view there greatly facilitates team discipline in status updates as it shows much more clearly which tasks are in progress (and allows to easily change that via drag'n'drop). I'm also weary of automatically updating the tasks status when you update the story as I can imagine lots of errors happen because of this. I think the underlying problem here really is that the status is not visible enough at/before the daily standup. As a workaround you could try to add the status field as an editable entry to the sprint backlog so you can update it without opening the ticket detail editing page - this might also get you part way there.
