Thanks. I think that will do for now. I think I mentioned in the
original message that we had hoped to keep the behavior for tasks. Any
chance of getting more granularity added to this feature in a future
release?

Actually you can disable this for all ticket types by putting this in 
your trac.ini in [components] (one line)
agilo.scrum.workflow.rules.CloseTicketWithRemainingTimeZeroRule =
disabled
