Problem solved. Agilo doesn't allow the field to be updated until the Agilo/Type has been correctly configured. Go to Admin -> Agilo -> Types and click on the appropriate type to ensure it has an Alias and configured Fields.
The documentation at https://dev.agile42.com/agilo-help/admin/TypeAdmin says "Now if you want to configure your newly created type...". This implies that the step is optional. Perhaps the wording could be modified to indicate that it is required for the interface to be properly functional.
