Well, it's indeed a bug and as far as I can see just an oversight by us.

I'm tracking it as #1091.

Sorry to say but I don't see a workaround for you right now.

In the pro version we have the inline editing in the backlog which
allows you to load the full ticket editor in the backlog without leaving
it, or the whiteboard which only allows editing the owner via a popup
anyway, but that probably doesn't help you.

This will be fixed eventuall, but to be honest thats not the top
priority backlog item right now.
