thanks a lot for the steps. The problem is caused by the regular expression
used in the LocationMatch directive of the Apache configuration for
authentication.
In the VM, you can find the file here:
/etc/apache2/sites-available/default
The line I am talking about is this one:
<LocationMatch /[\w]+/login>
I haven't had the chance to test this thoroughly but you can replace it
with this one:
<LocationMatch /.+/login>
Basically, this block says: for every URL that matches this pattern, use
basic authentication.
The first pattern does not include dashes:
\w matches digits, word characters (letters, digits, and
underscores), and whitespace
(spaces, tabs, and line breaks)
The second pattern does:
. (dot) matches any single character except line break characters
\r and \n
