The Google groups to which I am subscribed act as mailing lists with some fancy web features that I never use (although I've found that the web interface is handy for replying to a particular message when I'm subscribed in digest mode). The emails that they send out keep the messages fully intact, without obscuring anything. I've had similar experiences with Yahoo groups. Of course, I use my Gmail account to interact with them, but others use non-Google email addresses, and I haven't heard of any problems arising from that. -root
