Hey Matthew, thanks so much for the responses. Actually you've got my question backward. What I'm asking for is to know when someone is facing away from me, in other words, when I'm behind them, not the other way around. So they'd be in range but not seeing that I'm there. Does this make sense?

Currently, since I can't tell if someone sees me, I fire and thus, give away my surprise. Understand?...

I don't think we'd like to put in a facility to say when they're behind
you as sighted people don't get this information.  When we get OpenAL
(3D sound) position will be easier to determine.  I can't promise when
it will come, though; there's very little time we have for development
at the moment as I am trying to get funding for the next year of my
research :-S.
