I agree -- this is a very good idea. I think it will work best when I have finished explaining how the code is laid out in our repository so that people can see how their mods could be integrated. I haven't done this yet, as you know, so I suggest that either you wait for a while so that I can put the documentation in place, or you start experimenting with other parts of the system you propose to get the hang of it before doing the mod-related bits.
