There are two possibilities that spring to mind: 1. There is a router or firewall between you and the 'net that is blocking connections -- though you said that this may not be the case, so seems unlikely. 2. You have not registered a player name (or typed the details into the launcher correctly). 3. There's a bug somewhere (likely but I've not been able to reproduce any of these connection problems so I'm really struggling to see what it could be).
