Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah
As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu
Hajj - 24th Rabi-ath-Thani 1425 (13 June 2004)
Narrated by Ibn Abbas (Radhiallaho anho):
When Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) and his
companions came to Mecca, the pagans circulated the news that
a group of people were coming to them and they had been weakened by the
Fever of Yathrib (Medina). So the Prophet
ordered his companions to do Ramal in the first three rounds
of Tawaf of the Ka'ba and to walk between the two corners
(The Black Stone and Yemenite corner). The Prophet did not
order them to do Ramal in all the rounds of Tawaf out of pity
for them.
Bukhari Vol. 2 : No. 672
Ramal:
Fast Walking accompanied by movement by the arms and
legs to show one's physical strenght. This is observed
in the first three rounds of tawaf around the Ka'ba, and
is to be done by the men only, not by the women.
