Hi,
If I am understanding the nature of your problem the process is such that
the effects go around the lake but not through the center? If that is the
case, at least for exploratory purposes, why not treat the shore as a
transect, and use geostatistical methods on the line. if you are worried
about effects from starting at an aribtrary point you can always
jack-knife.

If the effects go through the whole lake, but are only sampled at the
shore, then that is a real sampling problem.
