Postdoctoral Researcher position: Cross-scale modeling of Hg emissions
We are currently searching for a post doctoral researcher interested in applying GIS and spatial statistical models to scale up mercury fluxes from point measurements to whole ecosystems, and eventually to regional and national (U.S.A.) scales. This represents the synthesis stage of a larger project investigating the significance of natural sources and sinks of atmospheric Hg. The researcher will work within a team of scientists who have developed data on natural sources and sinks (focusing on vegetation and soils) of atmospheric Hg from various regions of the United States. Researchers involved with the project (funded by US-EPA STAR program) include: Mae Gustin (PI), Dale Johnson (coPI), Peter Weisberg (coPI), Steve Lindberg (collaborator), James Rytuba (collaborator) and Hong Zhang (collaborator). A team of 6 graduate students is currently working on aspects of the project. The scaling component of the project will integrate the empirical data being developed to offer some insight as to the role of natural sources in influencing atmospheric Hg concentrations.
Applicants with interests in biogeochemistry, GIS, and scaling theory are encouraged to apply. We would like someone with a solid background in spatial analysis and statistical modeling. Some experience with remote sensing applications and/or simulation modeling might also prove useful. We expect this project to take a year to complete. Starting salary is US $38,000 and the contract will include fringe benefits.
