Any random function can be expressed as the sum of at least
two terms, one is the deterministic component and the other is the
stochastic component as:
Y(x)=m(x)+W(x) where m(x)=E[Y(x)]
The deterministic component [i.e., m(x)] is called drift or trend.

Hello -
I'm still new to geostatistics, and I've come across the term, drift a few
times, but I don't really understand what it means. Can someone offer a
simple explanation?
Thanks,
