Hello all, This message is regarding recent Aiki Changes to Version, Revision and Package Naming Conventions.
A very brief overview of the naming convention changes can be seen here: http://aikiframework.org/wiki/Downloading_Aiki. Basically, all the end-user packages starting from today will be released with a name like 'aiki-src-0.8.2.782.tar.gz' where previously the convention was 'aiki-rev-780.tar.gz'. The development packages will be similar to 'aiki-devel-0.8.2.782.tar.gz' where before they were 'aiki-0.9-dev-780.tar.gz'. The following information can also been seen here: http://aikiframework.org/wiki/Aiki_Version_Conventions. The current and generally standard Aiki Framework Version convention (example: version 0.8.2): 1. The number left or west of the dots indicates a MAJOR production type release. 2. The number in the middle of the dots indicates a significant change or MINOR changes. 3. The number right or east of the dots indicates a bug FIX or small change. 4. When the MINOR number changes, the FIX number should reset to zero. 5. When the MAJOR number changes, the MINOR number should reset to zero. 6. When the MAJOR number is zero, this indicates an alpha or beta type release 7. Each number can, but should probably not exceed 99 MAJOR---->0.8.2<----FIX MINOR-------^ Also, the revision is now being appended to the view (not the model) of the version in the Aiki Framework Web application, documentation and packages (example 0.8.2.782<---REVISION). Please note that eventually, the revision number may reach large numbers such as 999999 which shouldn't be a problem. Just in case some of you aren't sure what the revision is, it is basically the Bazaar version control Aiki push count. Every time changes are pushed to the Aiki source repository this number gets incremented. The automated release system I previously set up should release new packages including these changes on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at about 4:20 p.m. PDT. On a side note, I also added some authors from the 'AUTHORS' file to the man-page and the Aiki about-dialog which includes but isn't limited to Christopher Adams, Barry Threw and possibly Brad Phillips. Thank you, Steven
