The following comments are in reference to 'Call for Mentors' (AIR News,
Wednesday 22nd January at 10:38pm)

Please note that this 'activity' has not been discussed with staff of the
Medical Radiation Program at the University of South Australia. In the
undergraduate program, it is each student's responsibility to access a range of
resources as a function of researching the specifics of a 'patient' scenario.
To be most effective this process depends on students accessing a number of
resources. These resources could include the opinions of Medical Radiation
professionals & other Allied Health professionals, journal and text materials,
and other appropriate media including on-line materials.

Our major concern with the suggested mentoring set up is that it has the
potential to encourage students to limit their sources of information. This
would have the effect of giving the student a more narrow perspective than is
ideal, and of limiting their learning.

While we encourage Medical Radiation professionals to become involved in
students' learning experiences, this can be achieved effectively in a less
structured format.
