*Job Title: *IT Information/Data Warehouse Architect
*Location: *Kansas City, MO

*JOB DESCRIPTION*

*Summary:*
The Information/Data Warehousing architect is responsible for defining and
driving information and data warehousing strategies. The architect will
also work closely with enterprise architects to align data warehousing
strategies with enterprise strategies including conceptual and logical data
models. Position will champion data, information, and data warehousing
within the organization including education and open communication with
business partners and data stakeholders within the enterprise.
*Major Responsibilities:*
- Develop and define the future state using visualization maps and tools
that facilitate an understanding of the processes, applications, data and
physical layers
- Create and drive actionable strategies for achieving the future state
- Align strategies with business direction and initiatives
- Align strategies with enterprise/infrastructure architecture
- Act as an advocate for ensuring that the data warehouse database design
aligns with the overall enterprise architecture goals.
- Set strategic direction for information and data warehousing tools and
best practices that support Information Architecture, data profiling, data
quality management and metadata management.
- Work across project teams to ensure the future state is well understood
and that the project teams are aligned
- Identify and define critical elements, including how they should be
implemented, shared, and used, as well as how to optimize data quality.
- Analyze and interpret requirements to design and model appropriate
dimensions
- Assisting in the ongoing support of the data warehouse development and
environment
- Optimizing design/refactoring
- Analysis and tuning of data warehouse databases and queries
- Supplying data warehousing conceptual and logical design consultation
attribute specification, and data mapping services.
- Providing logical data warehouse database design and coordination with
database analysts during the conversion to physical implementation.
- Offering leadership in developing and maintaining fluid communications
with business partners and other data stakeholders to develop data
marts/subject areas
- Writing SQL queries to understand existing tables and their contents.
- Assist developers to write and optimize SQL for use in applications.
*Qualifications*
- Solid leadership experience in large cross-functional teams and the
flexibility to influence people at a variety of levels
- Strong written and verbal communications
- Demonstrated competencies critical to success: Conceptualization,
foresight, enterprise perspective, consensus building, leadership, and
communication
- Minimum of 7 years of large system design and implementation
- Experience with robust, operationally sound production environments is
a must.
- Experience with data design, performance tuning and administration for
relational and multi-dimensional data base is a must.
- Solid experience with dimensional modeling
- Knowledge of software project lifecycle is a must
- Experience with change management procedures is a must.
- Knowledge of architectures, such as SOA, MDA, EDA and OOP
- Demonstrated ability to investigate and learn new technologies and
products is a must
- Strong understanding of distributed environments
*Education Experience:*
· Minimum of 7-10 years related experience
· Bachelor of Science or equivalent work experience
*Competencies (if applicable):*
- Data warehousing experience with Oracle environment required
- DBA experience with Oracle environment required
- Experience with DB2 in z/OS environment preferred. Additional
experience in a Unix UDB environment is a plus!!
- Experience using ER/Studio, or similar data modeling tool.
- Experience using Relational Integrity constraints.
- Experience reverse-engineering existing tables into a data model.
- Experience with physical aspects of data modeling, such as making
denormalization decisions and adding performance indexes.
- Basic understanding of security mechanisms used in DB2 for z/OS
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments for multiple projects
