Yes, you can't do so. Work with AJAX.Net we can present as using Web Service from client side. We call its methods simpliciter without full page lifecycle and because this server side elements are not initialised. If you want to use something like you sample, you should draw your attention on some other frameworks provides this functionality (like MagicAJAX, Atlas, etc)
