I changed the test and using 500 times the string "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890" in both directions. I get durations between 0 and 16 milliseconds (measured with JavaScript Date object). Before the change the sending of the 500 lines has taken about 700 milliseconds, a great performance change!!!
