Might be fun though ;) What I found is: whenever I tried to use Akka for a bit of my application, somehow that bit kept changing. I guess that is because switching between Akka style and non Akka-style feels a bit awkward. This havin said, a large part of my app is still non-Akka and it might be a good start for you to start exploring Akka. It might be a bit of an overkill if you just stick to that eMail sending ;)
