This sounds very strange.

Can you share your configuration?

I'm thinking about one setting.
akka.jvm-exit-on-fatal-error
If you have configured that to off the jvm might still be running but the
ActorSystem is shutdown because of a fatal error.

What is shown in the logs? Nothing? Can you run with debug log level, then
you should see a steady stream of log messages (e.g. form cluster
heartbeating) and we might be able to see what happend before the magical
shutdown.
