If you'd like to handle this in logback land and not deal with altering akka's logging strategy, you can also configure logback to work in bounded space and drop overflows as well.
Take a look at logback's AsyncAppender. http://logback.qos.ch/manual/appenders.html You'll configure your logback appender normally and then wrap it in your async appender.
