After further research I have come to the conclusion that there really 
isn't any secure way to obtain the identity of client processes without use 
of a service such as the one provided by the Munge package I found.  As 
annoying as it is to create a dependency on an external service, It seems 
that Munge is, by far, the simplest solution, as any other solution would 
involve re-implementing what Munge already does.
