An ActorSystem is a rather heavyweight object. You typically start it when your application is launched and then keep it running until the application is stopped.
Actors within the ActorSystem are rather lightweight objects and you can start many of them. An actor can be short lived, or stay around for long, that all depends on what you need. You have to manage the lifecycle of the actors. You have to start and stop them.
