As an alchemi developer/user I see a huge potential for alchemi platform.
However, if we do not have commercial deployments it is because in
majority we are developers not business people, maybe if someone
(business man) takes the reins to bring alchemi into the market,
alchemi as a product will be a reality.

Financial institutions like banks, brokers, etc can take benefit of
alchemi straight away, such companies have huge numbers of pcs running
windows that could be used for processing on the spare time. They
have inumerous applications that takes so much time for running and
Alchemi could be used to drop down this processing time. ExcelGrid is
an example of plugin that running on alchemi framework could make
spreadsheets calculations run much more faster.

It is one example, there are tons of. To summarise I think what is
missing for alchemi (on commercial side) is someone to go further and
makes it happen.

my 2 cents,

Bringing it up for discussion...

Right now, Alchemi seems to be primarily a research project, with
excellent commercial potential, but with very few commercial
deployments.

I realize this is a source forge project and not a business, but I
kind of want to get a feel for the opinions on the future of the
project.

How do you see Alchemi being used in the next few years? What is your
personal vision for this project?

Do you see it just as a toy, something neat to mess around with;
something primarily for use in scientific/engineering applications;
something for use as a backend to business applications; or what?

And where do you see it being used? Large Fortune 500 businesses, or
small programming shops, or manufacturing businesses, or something
else?

I ask because while the project is interesting, and while we have a
pretty good understanding of where the project is going on a technical
level, I think we can benefit from some visibility and direction
setting on a usage and marketing level.

In a way I'm looking at "how can we take Alchemi, which is an
excellent framework in itself, and start pitching the concept to
increase our user base and make something great of it?". Much like
what Red Hat did for Linux.
