I don't know if anyone has replied to this - just found it in my inbox, 
when searching for something else!
Anyway, the current task submission schema is very limited.
(Perhaps this is why you are spawning off a seperate process from your 
own GThread?).

We have a more powerful schema, which lets you describe a set of jobs 
using a set of variables, and create a 'parameter-sweep' out of those 
variable values.
i.e based on the set of varuable values, a set of jobs are created. We 
implemented this schema/language (XPML) in the Gridbus Broker, 
(www.gridbus.org/broker) and
it may appear in a future version of Alchemi.
