It does not happen on my machine running RedHat Linux 7.3 with (an
admittedly old)

$ java -fullversion
java full version "1.4.0-b92"

It also doesn't happen on nagoya or gump.covalent.net.

Which JDK version are you using Sam?

1.4.1_01. Full "which" output can be found at:

http://cvs.apache.org/builds/gump/2002-11-13/test-ant.html

Since rubix is RedHat Linux 7.3/Intel out configurations should be *very* comparable. Can you try installing 1.4.1_01?
