The snickers are not about her fashion sense (that's a new one), it's about how weak of a selection Governor Palin is.
There will be the conservatives who only care about reversing Roe v. Wade who rally to her. But even staunch Republicans are seeing that she's only an amateur, who is all ready up to her neck in controversy regarding her posts as mayor and governor. I agree that the family stuff should be left out but, of course, the GOP went there first and then feign outrage when it's thrown back in their face. Shalom.
