I was in UK in mid August and rented a VW Jetta Diesel for 380 dollars
for 8 days via Hertz and their Green line. I had priced Focus for
similar money. They were both standard. The 147 price may be right if
its an automatic and depends where they are picking up.
If they are picking up at a smaller airport (Pisa) or location they
could /should try calling direct to at least secure the 147 especiallly
if they play up the passion of driving an Alfa in Italy, etc...
This worked for me many many years ago when I rented an Alfa 75 for a week.

On behalf of a friend leaving shortly for Italy .... online it looks like
just shy of seven hundred dollars to rent an Alfa 147 for eight days. Is
that true? Any quick leads, hints, suggestions would be great. I know this
