It may not be the bulbs, but the rheostat (dimmer switch). If you're comfortable with removing the switch (bottom of knee pad just above right leg), and wiring it to "always on" that should bring back the lights and tell you the switch needs to be replace / repaired. Good luck finding a new switch. I had my re-soldered and it has worked for a year now. Be careful working on the switch, the plastic is old and brittle. And have extra fuses available in case you pop one or two when re-wiring. Otherwise, it could be the copper flat wire around the gauge is shorting.
