I just brought the '73 GTV out of hibernation last night.. replaced the composite fuel line (fuel hose, copper tubing, fuel hose, rusty (leaking) oem steel, and petrified oem hose). Put in fresh steel and fresh hose, fresh gas, and fresh fuel filter.
Am I missing something, or is there a way to actually remove the fuel filter canister from the engine compartment without major disassembly? I didn't have access from below at the time, so I cleaned it out where it was, replaced the filter /spring, and o-ring, and reassembled. PITA. But that's not what got me on this rant. I fired it up only to find another leak.. on the return line, right before it goes back into the tank. There is a 2" X 1/2" aluminum "fitting", looks like a small filter, or check valve, and the petrified hose had cracked at the inlet. I pulled it out of the circuit for a look, and I can see right through it, neither filter or check valve. Any ideas what it could be? I replaced it with a short piece of steel tubing, as the flare on the mystery fitting was splitting the petrified hose, and I didn't have enough time or materials to do the return system, but I am curious.
