When's the last time you changed the spark plugs? Normally I'd start looking
at things like motor mounts, but if it's temperature related then I'd look at
things like plugs, cap, rotor, etc first.

For the second problem, dry bushings in the a-arms or sway bars? Put the front
end up in the air, get out a spray bottle of Mystery Oil, and squirt some at
the sway bar mounts, a-arms, etc. Bushings can groan a bit as they age and dry
out.

Merry Christmas!

Subject: [alfa] Berlina Cold Start Vibration

Fellow Digesters:
My '72 Berlina has developed a very noticeable vibration when it is
started cold in the morning. After it warms up, the problem seems to go away.
The vibration occurs in neutral and changes somewhat once it is put into
reverse gear. I can feel it in the steering wheel and it seems to be coming
from the engine or running gear. Otherwise it seems to run just fine. Any
ideas what may be causing this?
I also noticed a separate problem long before this vibration problem
showed up. Again, when the car is cold in the morning and I go over
undulating pavement, I notice a noise which sounds like it is coming from the
front
suspension when the car dips down as it passes over a depression in the
pavement. Any ideas what may be causing this?
