Yes, the Spica spider will run fine without the air cleaner.
The
plastic thing on the fireway behind the air cleaner is the emergency fuel pump
cut off. In an accident, it is supposed to turn off the power to the fuel
pump. If your fuel pump is working, the device is working. If not, push the
button on top. If it still does not work, connect the two wires on teh bottom
to bypass the device.
Some people say to permanately wire the device out
of the circuit. But I have had no problems with them, even on my race car,
which has taken some pretty hard hits.
Now, why rip out the Spica
system? If your dip stick smells like gasoline, then the Spica is probably
leaking fuel and needs ripped out. But if the Spica is OK, then run it. Or
trade your Spica to Wes Ingram for a rebuilt one.
Spica Alfas run fine if
they are set up properly.
Ciao,
Russ Neely
