It's been over 10 years now, but I seem to recall the thing that made it
easy to walk away from that car was indeed the fact that it was an
automatic - there wasn't much value in the bits nor the rusty body.

The main "valuable" bits on those cars are the flywheel, clutch,
transmission and the bell housing. Unfortunately, the one you
encountered doesn't even have that (the automatic being useless to most
Alfisti).
