David,

>1- Recommendation on a machine shop to do a valve job. SF bay area.

Any competant machine shop can do a valve job on an Alfa. Many people in the
SF Bay Area use Dan Marvin.

Grind stones are perfectly adequate, just time consuming. As long as you're
careful and you know what you're doing, you can do an excellent job with
stones. It's what I use, though I'm in no hurry, and take my time about
it. Also, for performance enhancement, you can grind to virtually any angles
or diameters the seats and valves allow.

Arguably, a machine that uses a form tool such as a Serdi is
"better", though you may need to buy the form tools, and you may want to lap
in the valves (when a form tools chatters, it does so perpendicular to the
seat.) I think Hasselgren uses a Serdi, though I don't know if he does Alfas.
I'm pretty sure George Beavis uses one. The Newen single-point machine is the
best of all, but _very_ expensive, so you may have a hard time finding anyone
who's got one. Kenny Augustine is trying to buy one, though I don't think he's
gotten one yet. (Kenny's an artist, but has an artist's temperment.)

>3- Any thoughts on how/whether the fuel injection distributor casing could be
fixed ...

Aluminum can be TIG welded, but depending on where / how badly the case is
damaged, it may not be worth it.

>i know this is a good excuse to switch to webers

There is no good excuse to switch to Webers.

>4- Any other words of wisdom

Take it easy. You're breaking things. You need to be more careful.
