Subject: [alfa] Stuck door

How do you unstuck
a driver side alfa spider (1974) door. It I force it
open it will damage the
fender. I have it about 4 inches open. Any ideas?

    First
suggestion, do not copy a complete Alfa Digest into your email. Edit the text
to just enough to remind the reader of what thread you are replying to.

Why is your door stuck? Either the door / cowl is very bent or the hinges
have become very rusted. Try rust disolving lubricants. Kroil is good.
Liquid Wrench has some rust cutting products. WD-40 is worthless. Lubricate
the hinges and start working the door back and forth. Lubricate, work the
hinge, lubricate and repeat until it works.
If that does not work, can
you get a 13 mm wrench in there and unbolt the hinges? If you can get the
hinge off, you might soak it in a bath of rust cutter. Or heat it as hot as
you can get it and work it back and forth in a vice to break the rust. Then
lubricate and exercise it until it works freely.
Or you may have to get a
different hinge. I have several doors in my back yard if you need one or
both hinges. So far as I know all hinges are the same from 1971 to 1994.

I have drilled hinge pins out but finding the right size bolt / pin to go back
was a problem.
