I did this a few years ago, I think as a result of one of my wires shorting out 
or something. I believe that I replaced the grommet with a somewhat common 
sealed electrical box connector from McMaster-Carr:

then on "multicord"). There are a couple of varieties: ones with a rubber insert having 
multiple holes through which you pass the various wires and the nut compresses the insert to seal around 
the wires, and then a similar sort with heat shrink extensions that might be even better. I think I used 
the former type, but I don't drive my GTV in foul weather so sealing isn't critical. Neither looks 
particularly original, but they do the job. I think I used ones to fit standard 1/2" electrical 
conduit knockouts, but it has been a while so you ought to measure the holes to check before buying. I 
may have gotten a small rubber washer to put around the connection to the bucket to help seal that 
interface, too.
