My stolen (other non-Alfa) car has been recovered after being missing four months. The car is in good shape and all my stuff was still inside ! I hoped the car would turn up quickly but after waiting one month I took the payout from the insurance company. They said I could have the opportunity to buy it back at auction if the car turned up. I have been trying to negotiate buying it back but the insurance company claims they never sell them back for various liability issues. They plan to continue to put the car up for auction. The auction house is independent of the insurance company and the insurance people seem to have no knowledge of the auction process. The auction is not open to the public ! Only registered buyers can bid and to become a registered buyer one must have an auto related business and pay a $200.00 fee plus other requirements. I have to make an initiative to find a registered buyer to work with me. The auction house has no mechanism in place to help pair registered buyers with the public. The car will come up for auction in the next two- three weeks.
Does anyone know a registered buyer at Insurance Auto Auction of Fremont, California ? Does the above insurance company practice seem normal ? Thanks for any thoughts or help.
