Dick, on occasion I accept that I am wrong, but certainly not regarding the suggestion of using a slide hammer to remove the ignition switch. If you'd gone that route, quite possibly you would have broken the casting which holds the switch.

If you've not done so remove the screws holding the two piece shroud on the steering column - pretty sure either a 3 or 4mm allan wrench. Remove the lower part, gently pry the upper section up and to the left. Use a cutting blade on the Dremel and cut a slot in the center. It should be aluminum so will cut easily. Get a short screwdriver in there and remove the, now, slotted screw. They've always come out easily for me. Do have the steering wheel centered when doing this. Switch then pops right out and just remove the wires from the plug/socket (incorrect term).

Oh-oh. I forget what year your Spider is. The wires on the switch might be held on by screws. Note where they go.
