After about 5 days intermittent light use, the throwout bearing noise I was fussing about in my initial posting simply stopped happening.
Since it stopped, I have taken my Alfetta for an 80 mile round trip, and used it locally for two days. There has been no re-occurance of this noise. I am sure the noise was throwout bearing related, because it only ever happened with my foot on the clutch pedal, and it always went away immediately when the clutch was fully engaged. I'm still puzzled, but I'm not going to go after a problem with the throwout bearing unless it returns and persists. I did put my Alfetta up on stands and looked underneath. Everything around the drive train and clutch was secure and properly located. The Giubos and hanger bearing were replaced last fall, and they still look perfect. Thanks to Skip, Beatle and Chris for their postings on this subject. If anyone has had a throwout bearing failure, I would like to hear about the symptoms. I would expect a rumble from a bearing problem, not the high pitched noises that I heard this time around.
