Hey, BS,
I have not read all the emails on this topic, so this may be
redundant. Or I may be redundant. <grin>
I had lunch with the local
Alfa mechanic. He suggested the bleeders on the spider calipers might not be
at the top when installed on a Milano. I think the fact that you may need to
turn the car upside down to bleed them has been discussed.
The next was
the proportioning valve, as mentioned by Andrew Fischer. I seem to recall
that the GTV-6 proportioning valve put a lot more pressure to the rear
brakes. The Milano always seems to stop on its nose and the rear brakes on a
Milano last forever. Not so with the GTV-6.
Would an adjustable
proportioning valve be considered a "Safety Item" and therefore exempt from
the $500 price limit on the Lemons Cars?
The last thing the Alfa
mechanic mentioned as the rubber boots in the calipers. If the rubber has
pooched out (Technical Term) and is covering any edge of the caliper piston,
then it can cause the problem you have described.
Ciao,
Russ

Strange breaking problem
I had this problem on my GTV. It was a broken
proportioning valve. I
replaced it with one from a spider. Different type
valve without a
large chamber. The valve broke internally so there were no
leaks. The
fluid was sloshing between chambers, causing the sinking pedal
until
pumped
