Will,
Massachusetts is very tough on inspections, and will fail a car if
rusted through, as the arch was. To my great dismay, as it seems now to
have spelled the end of an era for me: almost twenty years of the joys
and occasional hassles of driving Alfas.
The car used to pass inspection and emission tests, usually without
difficulty. I just gave it a good run first. I have the old inspection
reports; California's standards may be higher.
Thanks for trouble-shooting the clutch thing. My most recent mechanic
was familiar with the problem too. And I'm sure it's time to replace
the clutch, which is the original.
The interior's very good, if a little funky from sitting mostly closed
up. The velour could use a cleaning. But all's intact. I'll make some
new photos in and out and forward them to you.
A quick search online for coast-to-coast carriers: Appears to be about
$1200 for insured, door-to-door delivery, payable on delivery (to avoid
scammers). (I plugged in SF, CA, not knowing your location.)
Interesting idea, retiring/relocating the car to a more hospitable
clime. Feel free to make an offer!
