Paul,
Did you get the head all the way off or just flush with the top of the
studs? I had one a couple of months ago that gave me a fit. The tool you
made is basically the same as the Alfa factory tool. I had to modify my tool
by drilling holes directly above the studs and installing hardened steel
bolts, nuts and washers to push down directly on the studs. Even doing that
took me over a week to finally get the head to the top of the studs.
To do the Braden trick with the rope in the cylinders, I use a big
screwdriver on the flywheel teeth to obtain enough force to do the job. Stick
a sacrificial bolt in a bolt hole, don't use one of the existing studs for a
fulcrum. The existing studs are brittle and will break!!

Subject: [alfa] extra horsepower
hello all,
we were able to release the head of the 2 liter with a large plate
and all 4 plugs welded to rod and nuts/washers. unfortunately we
tried the #2 only first and ended up losing the threads for #2.
fortunately someone at the garage can helicoil(sp?) I was wondering
what needs to be done to the 2 liter to qualify for the 150 hp
version of the Spica inj? more than cams and 10-1 pistons? it has
cast iron headers ('73).
thanks in advance
