I've been using synthetics forever, still have trouble with the 10k intervals
(it's a mental thing, I'm sure). I've been doing oil and filter every 5k
miles,
or 10 years, whichever comes first. For a couple of my Alfas, the 10 years
seems to come first..

I think it might depend on what kind of driving you do. Stop and go city
driving will probably require more frequent changes than highway driving. When
the filter stops filtering and goes into bypass, the oil will start to get
dirty. So, you might want to try some interval, be it 3k, 4k, or 5k, then see
how the oil looks on the dip stick. If it's clean, the filter is still
working,
if it's dirty, the filter might be in bypass mode.

With my 5k oil/filter changes, the oil comes out pretty clean, so I'd feel
comfortable with 5k on the filter and 10k on the oil, for starters.
